I have mentioned before that my Grandma has had to move to a nursing home. It's been a little over a month since she fell and the determination was made that she could no longer live on her own. It's been a busy and difficult month. The brunt has been borne by my Aunt. Her daughters both just had babies within the last 6 weeks. My Mom and I have tried to help as much as we can, but we live about 30 miles away.
This past weekend we had a sale at her apartment to try to get rid of some of the stuff that wasn't being kept by either or another member of the family. Before I left on Saturday I had offered to help take the rest of the stuff to Goodwill. My Aunt called later to say that they wouldn't need me after all. No biggie -- I have plenty to do...
Well, she called last night because it turned out that my cousin wouldn't be able to help after all -- Could I please come? And bring the truck? Well, since I didn't think I needed it, the truck is not here right now. We decided that between our two cars, we'd probably manage.
This morning I called to let her know I was on my way, and I'd meet her in 30 minutes. 20 minutes in to my drive: she called back. She didn't really need me after all. There wasn't nearly as much stuff as she had originally thought.
LOL.
I'm just glad I didn't get all the way there before discovering that I wasn't really needed. That would have annoyed me. There wasn't really any point in being annoyed, though. The stress that she's been under is pretty crushing. I might have done the same thing -- looked at it all and panicked about how much it was.
What I probably should have done was just turn around and come home, but my inner brat said "You've driven all this way, it'd be a shame to take a trip to nowhere. You should go to Pamida."
Pamida, for those of you who don't know, is a Discount Store. In the range of discount stores, I would rank it thusly:
Target (where I do a lot of shopping)
Wal-Mart (which I try to avoid, but sometimes you just have to go to Wal-Mart)
K-Mart (I can't even remember the last time I went to a K-Mart, let alone bought anything of value there)
Pamida (They might have some name-brand stuff, but mostly, the housewares and stuff is way way off-brand).
I wandered around for awhile, found that they had some scrapbooking stuff (and bought some paper and some stickers), and finally gave up and came home.
So that's my story of my trip to Nowhere. I am in need of a break, but I wasn't really in need of an hour in the car. I've been sitting too much lately, which is jamming up my hips (well, my sacroiliac joints, I think). On that note, I think I'd better stand up and maybe go do some stretching....
